Facilities

Our new facility on FM 518 in League City, TX was opened in 2003 and contains a variety of treatment options. There are nine treatment rooms one of which is an exercise, rehabilitation room.

Dr. Marr's Office

Dr. Glenn Marr's office is the central place for reviewing patients X-rays, discussing patients course of action for healing the body and the place Dr. Marr also adjusts patients with chiropractic treatments.

Chiropractic therapy is a holistic form of treatment that uses the body's natural ability to heal itself in order to treat physical, mental and emotional conditions. This is done by focusing on the spinal cord, which is connected to virtually all of the body's tissues and organs through the nervous system. It is believed that the misalignment of the spinal cord is often the cause of headaches, neck and lower back pain, as well as many other conditions.

Chiropractic therapy can be used to:

  • Relieve head, neck and back pain
  • Improve the function of the immune system
  • Prevent surgery on the back, neck or spine
  • Improve respiratory function
  • Provide an improved overall sense of well-being

It can also be used to treat many other conditions associated with pain and dysfunction, including migraines, chronic fatigue, autism, fibromyalgia, scoliosis and others.

Ultrasound & Electrical Muscle Stimulation Treatment

Treatment rooms 1 and 2 both contain an XLTEC Ultra IV machine which combines ultrasound and electric muscle stimulation. This combination allows for deeper penetration of the muscles and faster results for our patients.

Ultrasound Therapy
Ultrasound therapy helps reduce pain, muscle spasms and joint contractures by applying ultrasound waves to the affected area. The vibrations from the waves penetrate the tissue and create a heat response that helps to heal the damaged tissue.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation
This treatment transmits low-frequency electrical currents through affected muscles, nerves and tissue to reduce pain. The currents help the body secrete endorphins and other natural painkillers that relieve pain caused by muscle strains, spasms and other injuries.

Moist Heat Therapy
Moist heat is applied to an injured area to dilate the capillaries and increase blood flow. This ensures that the damaged tissues receive the nutrients and oxygen they need to expedite the healing process. The heat from this treatment can also reduce pain and muscle spasms temporarily.

Acupuncture Room

Treatment room 8
is the main acupuncture room; however, all rooms can be used for acupuncture.

According to the World Health Organization, acupuncture is effective for treating 28 conditions, while evidence indicates it may have an effective therapeutic value for many more. People with tension headaches and/or migraines may find acupuncture to be very effective in alleviating their symptoms, according to a study carried out at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Another study at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center found that twice weekly acupuncture treatments relieve debilitating symptoms of xerostomia - severe dry mouth - among patients treated with radiation for head and neck cancer.

How is acupuncture treatment done?
Our acupuncture treatments generally consist of up to 12 sessions. A visit to an Dr. Marr will involve an exam and an assessment of the patient's condition, the insertion of needles, and advice on self-care. Most sessions last about 30 minutes.

The patient will be asked to lie down, either face-up, face-down or on his/her side, depending on where the needless are inserted. The Dr. Marr will use single-use disposable sterile needles. As each needle is inserted the patient should feel them, but initially without pain. However, when the needle reaches the right depth there should be a deep aching sensation. Sometimes the needles are heated or stimulated with electricity after insertion. Once inserted, the needles will remain there for about twenty minutes.

Physical Therapy Room

Treatment Room 9 is utilized for physical therapy consists of electric muscle stimulation, moist hot packs, electric muscle stimulation, and traction massage. We will also sometime use an acupuncture treatment in this room. The patient lies on the traction massage bed and the acupuncture needles are heated or stimulated with electricity after insertion. Once inserted, the needles will remain there for about twenty minutes.

Exercise & Sports Rehabilitation

Treatment Room 6 is our exercise and rehabilitation room.

Scientific studies have consistently shown superior clinical results through combining chiropractic manipulative therapy with exercise rehabilitation. Our patients consistently see vast improvement through the changes in strength and balance they experience through our thorough and intensive in-house rehabilitation program.

Rehabilitation Programs
In addition to providing our patients intensive treatment, we place most of our patients on rehabilitation programs including therapy and exercises during their office visits. The in-office rehabilitation is complemented by therapy and/or exercises prescribed for patients to do at home. This reinforces the ongoing role the patient plays in achieving his/her own optimal health. Rehabilitation is an integral part of each patient’s therapy ensuring that our patients not only get out of pain but stay out of pain by working to correct the problem not just treat the pain.

X-Ray Processing

Treatment Rooms 3 and 4 are utilized for taking x-rays and x-ray processing.

X-rays are a form of energy similar to radio waves and sunshine. A Marr Physical Medicine Pain Injury Center X-ray will give you no more radiation than a flight from Houston, Texas to Orlando, Florida! Commonly, they are used to view the bony structures of the body to rule out any pathology, and in particular to Chiropractors, a means of biomechanical analysis.

Specialized chiropractic weight bearing X-rays will be taken of your whole spine. The frontal view is taken in one piece and is the ONLY way to fully analyze spinal vertebrae.

Since Dr. Glenn Marr wants to be as specific as possible in analysis and treatment, this information is vital in order to find the exact vertebral subluxation. All required measures are taken to ensure the exposures are taken with the least amount of radiation via the use of high speed screens, collimation, gonadal shielding and automatic chemical processing.

We use specialized x-ray cassettes which allow us to be very specific.

These x-rays will show the following:

  • look for signs of pathology and fractures
  • condition of each disc and joints in the spine
  • any abnormalities you were born with
  • your posture and its curves and how your body reacts to the forces of gravity

Taking into consideration all the x-ray findings, your chiropractor also takes into account your condition and examination and plans the specific adjustment required to correct your subluxation.

Chiropractors, who utilize chiropractic x-ray analysis thereby, provide care that is more efficacious than chiropractors who do not.

Benefits of an X-ray:

  • Rules out pathology
  • Important visual record of the spine
  • Determines the biomechanical status of each spine
  • Identifies areas of spinal decay/degeneration
  • Confirms examination findings
  • Informs the Chiropractor the direction of misalignment. This allows maximal correction of the subluxation, quickly allowing the patients to return to optimal health.

Minimizing Exposure to X-rays:

  • Only the necessary views are taken
  • The latest up-to-date equipment is utilized
  • Regular mandatory government inspection and testing of site
  • Sensitive high speed film shortens the exposure time
  • Highly accurate electronic timing
  • Luminescent screens amplify the image
  • Filters and collimation limit the beam to areas required
  • Shields protect sensitive body parts, for example gonads and eyes
  • Pre X-ray measurement to decrease the amount of X-rays required minimizing the number of exposures required.
